“First, we measure the customer’s energy consumption,” says Rengifo. The next step is elimination: checking whether we can switch something off or get rid of it. Perhaps there is an unnecessary radiator or lights are left on when they don’t need to be. We then look at ways to reduce the energy consumption that remains necessary.”

Teamwork
One of TCZC’s customers is Marley Spoon, a supplier of meal boxes. “We put together a team with the building owner, Marley Spoon employees, and external experts,” says Rengifo. “Together, we made a plan to reduce electricity consumption. The refrigeration and freezer in particular were using a lot of energy.”

Recognized Measures List
The team drew up a list of seven measures that are expected to work best. “We supplemented our ideas with measures from the Recognized Measures List (EML). These measures have been proven effective and must be implemented by companies to comply with energy saving obligations.”

Quick results
According to Rengifo, the advice pays for itself through lower energy costs. The project at Marley Spoon has reduced electricity consumption by 11%. “Our goal is 20%, and we think we will exceed that. Most of the time is spent preparing a plan with feasible measures. Following up on the plan itself takes little time.”

Tips for entrepreneurs
Rengifo has tips for entrepreneurs to save money and comply with energy saving requirements. “First tackle the major consumption: 80% of energy costs come from 20% of the installations. Apply the Recognized Measures List (EML). Check your settings: for example, does the freezer also work 2 degrees higher? And make sure you have a good team, with the owner of the building and someone who knows the machinery.” The approach does not have to take long: TCZC completed the project at Marley Spoon in less than 84 consulting hours.
